Anne Baber and Lynne Waymon are co-founders and principals of Contacts Count, a nationwide consulting and training firm specializing in career development and business and professional networking.
We began researching career security and resiliancy issues in 1994. Interviewing more than 200 people, we asked, "What do you wish you'd done before you were laid off?" That grew into a book, How To FireProof Your Career: Survival Strategies for Volatile Times, first published in 1995 by Berkley Putnam. It garnered rave reviews and a mention on the front page of The Wall Street Journal.

In 2006, we updated and expanded the FireProof strategies for The FireProof Your Career Guide, a 10-part career protection program. Organizations license the Guide to provide "self-serve" career guidance for employees or to use as the centerpiece of career managment programs.
The American Society of Training and Development featured our article "Career Insecurity," in the June 2007 issue of T&D (Training and Development) Magazine. It highlights the 5 FireProofing strategies foreward-thinking managers use to reduce anxiety and improve productivity after a layoff, so that employees are "Eager To Stay and Prepared To Go."
Baber and Waymon present keynotes,workshops, and train-the-trainer programs on FireProofing for corporate, government, university, and association audiences. Baber has a master's degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She heads the Kansas City Contacts Count office. Waymon holds a master's degree in Education from Florida State University. She heads the Silver Spring, MD office.
